Claudia Rosel (Spain, 1994) is an independent visual storyteller focused on migration, climate and culture stories. She is a recipient of the 2025 Overseas Press Club Scholar Award.

Driven by a deep curiosity about the world, Claudia has spent nearly a decade documenting global crises through impactful storytelling as a documentary photographer and producer. She has worked with newsrooms, nonprofits, and international organizations across East Africa, Europe, and North America. At IOM (United Nations), she led Somalia's communications efforts, highlighting the country’s challenges for global audiences and facilitating reporting trips for outlets like The New York Times, Reuters, Deutsche Welle, and PBS NewsHour. In 2024, Claudia documented the resettlement of Afghans from a U.S. military base in Qatar and later captured migration stories, local traditions, and culture in Mexico. She has also supported refugee relief in Greece, led a digital campaign on child exploitation in Thailand, and worked as a front-end developer for Spain’s largest news media group, Atresmedia.

A first-generation graduate student, Claudia is pursuing an M.S. in Documentary at Columbia Journalism School (class of 2025), where she is exploring more effective ways to tell stories.

Certified to work in hostile environments, PADI Rescue Diver and proficient with all editing and graphic design software.

Currently in New York City. Fluent in Spanish and English, Claudia has lived and worked in Spain, Kenya, Somalia, Mexico, Thailand and Greece.
